Social Engineering

Post by nickbmc1 »

Hi

How do you stop malicious third parties from getting your site blocked by Google Chrome ?

If you use TE and have links like below - any 3rd party can put whatever URL they want after u=
https://examplesite.com/te/out.php?s=10 ... s-site.com

Googlebot finds these links on external sites or they are somehow submitted to Google.

The result is. Constant social engineering warnings from Google.
Some of which result in phishing warnings on your sites. Which means they are blocked in Google Chrome.

Thanks

Hi again

Really could do with a reply on this & judging by the 19 views this thread has gotten in 72 hours, im sure a lot of other webmasters are keen to find a solution.

There is a thread on GFY about TE and this issue.
https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-busi ... xpert.html

I just had my host send me 2 abuse complaints they received from netcraft.

Is there a way of creating a whitelist for outgoing URL's in TE?
That's the only permanent solution off the top of my head.

It's a pretty urgent fix. Webmasters all over are getting netcraft complaints and social engineering warnings from google.

Thanks

Ok, well its 6 weeks since this ticket was opened.

I sent ICQ message weeks ago.
Nothing until you then send ICQ on 2nd, i reply on 3rd (im never on ICQ, like most people aren't).
Still nothing from you in return.

I don't wish to be blunt, but its a problem thats effecting a lot of webmasters and needs to addressed.

TE script is as such, that anybody can produce any link they want in the u= part of the link.

Getting emails from host, google and netcraft saying your linking to malicious sites when you are not, is not good at all.
Even more so, when you cant do anything to prevent it and nothing seemingly is getting done to fix it. Or has it?

An update would be great.

Thanks

HI,
Was there a solution to this?

I have tried blocking access to the te3 folder via htaccess but it doesn't seem to work well. Netcraft is complaining to my host and they are threatening to shut our sites down, please let us know what can be done about this. IT is easy in PHP but we can't do much with the pages encrypted.

Thanks!!!

I was over at gfy asking around if there are any good alternatives to this. The consensus was that most trade scripts are not being developed much anymore because there isnt as much profit in it.. so less support as well.

So what is the solution to track in- and outgoing traffic... google analytics using tags for the outgoing links?
