TE awfully slow...

Install 49 copies on my power house
QuadXE3-1230 quad core with 16 GB of RAM and 2 x 500 HD's in ZRAID
The front end loads stable and fast, but the back end loads ridiculously slow and often Gateway Timeout... I link all my sites together in the network but it takes too long to load somehow.
Frontend loads fast... weird only the admin and webmaster area loads crazy slow.
